The New Hope City Council has approved a $1.8 million investment in police technology to enhance transparency and efficiency. The 10-year agreement with Axon Enterprise includes the purchase of new body-worn cameras, Tasers, and squad cameras.
Police Chief Patrick Hoyt emphasized the importance of this upgrade, stating that the new equipment will help the department avoid costly fixes and be more efficient. He noted that the current body-worn cameras, first approved in 2021, are experiencing increased failure rates due to technical issues.
The council’s decision reflects a commitment to promoting accountability and transparency within the police department, aiming to build public trust and legitimacy.
