The New Hope City Council has approved a $1.8 million investment in police technology upgrades to promote accountability and transparency. The 10-year agreement with Axon Enterprise includes the purchase of new body-worn cameras, Tasers, and squad cameras.
Police Chief Tim Hoyt emphasized the importance of this investment, stating that it will help the department avoid costly fixes and be more efficient. He noted that the current body-worn cameras, first approved in 2021, are experiencing increased failure rates due to technical issues.
By upgrading to the latest technology, the New Hope Police Department aims to establish a culture of transparency and accountability, thereby building public trust and legitimacy within the community.
